Volcano and "la Plaine des Sables" :

registered on the UNESCO world heritage!

  Just fifty minutes from the Tulipier, a fantastic lunar landscape awaits you.

.The volcano is one of the most sprinkled place in the world (15 meters/year). We advise you to stay in order to have one day without rain and also to impregnate you with the mineral atmosphere and the extraordinary lunar landscape with its amazing changing colors. In addition to the traditional excursion on the volcano there are many other walks: around the volcano, before reaching the Plaine des Sables , and on the “Plaine” itself. Think of doing the splendid ballade of"Cassé de la rivière de l'Est"

The volcano is included in the National Park.

For us an eruption is a wonderfull fairy celebration!

Botanical features :

20 minutes drive :

- Primary forest recovers 30% of the surface from the island and is protected with the creation of the Natinal Park.

-The visit of the parfum plantation (CAHEB) in Le Tampon

- The Notre Dame de la Paix botanical path

– The Vieux Domaine

- « Jardin Exotica »

- Epinacothèque in Saint-Pierre

In 40 to 45 minutes drive:

- The garden "Eden"

- The Mascareignes botanical garden ( St Leu)

1 hour drive:

- The perfume and spice garden, near St Philippe

-The vanilla cooperative in Bras Panon

Beaches :

- St Pierre, with its white sand beach and lagoon. : 15 minute’s drive

- Grand Anse. A charming spot, with its beach of white sand and its seawater pool : 20 minutes by car

- L’Etang Salé. Black sand. Surfing : 30 minutes

- St Leu : grey sand beach bordering a beautiful lagoon rich in fish and coral : 40 minutes.

The "cirques" (amphitheatres):

- Cilaos : 1 hour 30 minutes by car

- Salazie : 1 hour 30 minutes

The way to go there is very beautiful!

You can only visit the amphitheatre of Mafate by walking!

- l’Entre Deux, with its attractive creole houses and gardens (20 minutes)

- La Plaine des Palmistes : typical creole architecture (40 minutes)

- Hell Bourg in Salazie: 1 hour 30 minutes.

- the village in Cilaos: 1 hour 30 minutes.

   The “wild” south : numerous places and sites to visit, including the “Curcuma House”, the St Philippe forest, and the lava flows; some of these are quite recent, and have changed the shape of the southern coastline, the vanilla plantations, the waterfalls of Langevin river. The road follows the jagged lava coast and offers many views. If the “wild south” charms you, spend two days to see all.

Other walks / hikes :

With over 800 kilometres of paths Reunion is a paradise for hiking.

 

( some of which are suitable for experienced walkers only ) :

- The “Piton des Neiges” via the Plaine des Cafres, via Cilaos, via Bélouve.

- Primary forest of Bebour and Belouve in 50 minutes with view over Salazie, the "trou de fer" and the "caverne des hirondelles" and the Cassé of Takamaka.

- The path in the very nice primary forest going from the begining of the path to the Piton des Neiges to the pass of Bébour (20 minutes)

-in Plaine des Palmistes: the waterfall "biberon" and the pond "Grand Etang" (30 to 40 minutes)

- Dimitile ( via l’Entre Deux ) in 20 minutes.

- Grand Bassin via the Plaine des Cafres (20 minutes)

-the "Piton de l'eau" on the volcano road, a crater full of water, surrounded by arum lily in 40 minutes.

Other principal sights :

- Grand-Bassin

- Rivière des Remparts ( on the road leading to the volcano ), the road to Notre Dame de la Paix.

- The “Fenêtre des Makes” ( view over Cilaos ) : 1 hour 30 minute's drive.

 

Particular things:

-in Le Tampon:

-the CAHEB, it is a cooperative of essential oil. You can made there your own perfume with a "nose". It's a 10 minutes drive.

-in Saint Pierre:

Sea turtle study centre (N1, at northern exit of St Leu : 45 minutes by car).

Places of worship :

- St Pierre : Tamil temple ( Fire-walking ; Festival of Light ) Chinese temple, Mosque

- Piton Sainte Rose: the Church "Notre Dame des laves"

- Sainte Anne: the Catholic Church with an original history

    The street markets of Saint Pierre and Le Tampon :

  Daily flights to Mauritius from Pierrefonds International Airport, just 15 minutes’ drive from the Tulipier. If you plan to visit Mauritius, it is preferable to reserve your plane ticket in advance.
